Like most of you, I find Nouns DAO impressive and extremely unique. While the pixel art and governance style of Nouns appeals to most, what fascinates me even more is our so-called “CC0 culture”.

In fact, proliferation (or the spreading of the Nounish meme) is possible because of CC0 culture. Nounish assets are automatically in the public domain, free for anyone to use, and hence permissionless forking of Nouns DAO can take place.

Hence, tons of buildors have started creating their own version of Nounish artwork, or even, a fork of the entire DAO itself!

We call that, Sub-DAOs.

What Is A Nounish SubDAO?

A project forked off Nouns, and has its own community with a more specific audience.

Some common characteristics include:

• Nounish art
• A sub-community with its own twist on governance
• A mission and vision
• Sticking to the Nounish ethos (CC0 & more) while having a spin on uniqueness

In this article, we will be going through a comprehensive (but non-exhaustive) list of all current Nounish Sub-DAOs. I have personally interviewed and surveyed founders, early members, and active contributors of these sub-DAOs, so I assure you that the content we’re making here is straight from the horse’s mouth! In a good way of course.
